Leather in architecture? Yes, it's possible!
There are materials that immediately resonate with us through their texture, scent, and presence. Leather is one such material. And while it has been used for centuries, we are now witnessing its evolving role in architecture and interior design: no longer just a decorative embellishment, but a genuine design element.
Our leather is vegetable-tanned, natural in its structure, soft and vibrant. It tells stories – of the landscape it comes from, of the animals whose hides we were able to transform into a durable material, and of the people who process it with respect.
Leather in interior design? Yes – and it makes sense.
In one of our projects, our leather was used for handles on custom-made cabinets. At first glance, a small application – but with a significant impact. For it is precisely where hands interact daily, where material is not just observed but truly felt, that leather unfolds its unique quality: It becomes more beautiful over time. It doesn't resent traces of use; instead, it transforms them into a rich patina. It remains warm, tactile, and soft.
The interior design is minimalist – featuring bright surfaces, natural materials, and clean lines. And then, leather handles. Not as a contrast, but as an invitation to touch, to linger. This is not a coincidence, but a deliberate choice of material.
Spaces that feel good
We believe that spaces should be more than just backdrops. They should be able to touch – both literally and figuratively. Whether on walls, furniture, or as details, leather brings depth, warmth, and texture. It has a calming, grounding effect. And it changes over time – just like the people who live or work within them. Our leather remains open-pored, breathable, and evolves with people. Thanks to the team at Mirlo Urbano Architekten for the wonderful project and their trust in our products.
Craftsmanship over superficiality
Our leather is made from raw material that would otherwise be disposed of: hides from animals in regional meat and dairy production. Instead of burning or discarding them, we transform them into something durable. This is not a mass-produced item, but a consciously chosen material for individuals who want to combine design with a strong sense of purpose.
A beautiful example of how materials with character shape spaces. Interested in creating your own projects with leather? We would be happy to help you. Send us an email.
