What is semi-aniline leather?
Our apparel leather is a semi-aniline leather. This means it features a light pigmentation – a thin layer of color that protects the leather without obscuring its natural surface. Consequently, the surface largely retains its natural character, and the leather's pores remain open.
This coating is ideal for protecting the leather from moisture, dirt, and abrasion – a feature that is particularly advantageous for garments worn daily and subjected to considerable wear.
Unlike top-coated or heavily coated leather, the natural structure of the hide remains visible. Every wrinkle, every pore, and small imperfection tells a story about the animal and brings the material to life.
Our finish consists of water-based components and is free from harmful substances. This protects the leather without sealing it, ensuring it remains breathable, soft, and skin-friendly.
A good finish, therefore, is not a contradiction to naturalness; rather, it is a prerequisite for leather clothing to remain beautiful for a long time – even when worn as intended: close to the body, in everyday life, and throughout one's life.
